| RADEON 9800 versus GeForce 6200
RADEON 9800 versus GeForce 6200. How do these two stack up to replace a broken card for a Dell Dimension 8200 (a 4x bandwidth). I looked up some benchmark tests, but i dont know how to compare them, i'm kinda new to this which is what brought me here. These 2 were recommended to me, the Geforce was cause of its 30$ price. |

the 9800 should out perform the 6200 , depending on what version you get..
if you are looking at a 9800 Pro, it will kill the 6200 , I believe the 9800 NP will still be a better card then the 6200 ...
I would personally look for a 6600 GT if you are upgrading to a new card.. you can probably find it cheaper then a 9800 pro and it's better then the 9800 pro as well...

The 6200, even then best version of it, cannot reach the performance of a 9800 series card. The only case when it might come close is if we were to compare a 9800SE against the best 6200. The 6200 is the low end card of the 6 series from Nvidia. It compares with the mid range graphics cards of the previous generation. Those would include the 9600 series such as an ATI 9600pro or a 9600XT or a 5700 or a 5700U from Nvidia.
I agree with sweeper2, if you're gonna buy a new graphics card, you should be looking no lower than a 6600GT if you wish to play games on decent settings without lag. But for a 6600GT you would have to spend at least twice as much as you would on a 6200. A 6600GT can be had for under $100, and it's well worth it. The 6200 you found for around $30 must be one of the worst versions, in which case you might as well use onboard graphics (if available) because the 6200 won't be much better.
But, if you're not a gamer, then by all means you should get that 6200. It will serve you well for everything but gaming.
