Help can't use DVI connection to LCD monitor!!

Bought a computer with GeForce 5500 card installed and am trying to connect to a LCD monitor using the DVI output...so far I get no picture when connecting the DVI cable and starting up the computer, have had to use the standard VGA cable. There is a setting on the screen's OSD to swtich between digital/analogue inputs. But I can only use the OSD when the monitor has this analogue input!!!

The monitor is a widescreen model and I am not happy with the display and wanted to try to DVI output on the card instead.

Any hints on how I can get this to work?

Cheers,

anybody?...This is driving me nuts, every time i start my comp i need to turn the screen off, then on again so that it auto-processes the picture, otherwise everything is all cropped.

I'm hoping this is something that would be mended if i could just get the DVI connection to work!!!!

Can you run the correct settings under the analog (VGA) output?
You will need to install the driver for the new monitor (while using the analog/VGA output) so that your video card will have the correct resolution available.

Try this:
Connect BOTH the VGA and DVI ports from the video card to the LCD monitor. Now go into your display properties control panel and enable dual screens, using the "clone" option. You should now be able to switch between the two and directly compare any quality differences. Hopefully the DVI option will be superior.

I tried connecting both cables but was not able to select a 'dual display clone' or similar. It seems like the card is not detecting the monitor when connected to the DVI port or vice versa Maybe the graphics card doesn't suport dual output?

In answer to woodbutcher: my monitor's manufcturer (Fujitsu Siemens) claim the monitor doesn't need any drivers and is plug and play, or plug and pray as an IT tech at work used to call it

Thanks for the suggestions, keep 'em comin'!!!

Sandy

PS FYI I Have a GeForce 5500FX graphics card and a scaleoview W19 monitor, the graphics card drivers are up-to-date via nvidias website
