Another 'noob' needs help...
Hi,
Im very unexperienced in these matters and thought i'd look to get some support.
I recently decided to upgrade my shabby geforce mx 440 card to another low quality 'XFX GeForce FX 5700 Ultra Dual DVI' (this is the minimum requirement to play BF2!).
I found some instructions on installing the new card and I did everything they said, however when turning on my computer, the monitor says 'going to sleep' just before it goes on to the desktop. Everything else is completely normal.
Could this be because the card isn't compatable with my monitor (a compaq FP 5315)? Are there any websites which can tell me which cards are compatible with my monitor? Or maybe it is another issue which i have overlooked?
I also noticed there were two slots on my card for my montior to be pluged into (via an adapter) which slot does it go into? The same thing happends when it is pluged into either slot, but i was just curious why there are two slots?
My specs are;
pentium 4 packard bell
windows xp
256mb I believe, possibly 512
If there is aything else you need just let me know. But I really apreciate any help or advice you can give me. If worse comes to worse I may just take it into a shop, but thats a bit extreme.
Thanks again,
FourKingAce

BF2 is one off the poorest coded games i have seen in awhile... Their minimum requirements its still unplayable online.
Did you connect a molex connector to the one that comes with the card... some video cards need extra power specially when they are AGP like yours.
Make sure is hooked if not then you are not getting any display..
When you turn on the pc does the video card fan starts to spin?
And one last note... you wont be able to run BF2 with 256 of RAM, minimum is 512MB and even it stuters with 1GB...

I heard that all you do is put all the settings on low, then it works faily good...
The fan starts to spin yes i noticed the different sound...
I didnt get a 'molex connector' with the card, do you think I need to get one? Is there a specifc one I need for my card and monitor to work?
Thanks for the help, its much apreciated.

Well it should come already connected to the video card you just plug it to one of the connectors from the power supply...
Can you see the wattage of your power supply?

BF2 will be pretty unplayable on an FX5700 Ultra... bro used to run it on an FX5900 and it was pretty crap, chopped alot, took REALLY long to load. If you have a lower end P4, EVEN if its 512MB of ram u have, dont bother upgrading just the gfx card, it wont help much.

I would reccomend 1GB ram, a 6600gt, and atleast 2.6ghz P4 to get a playable experience.

350W is enough for a 5700 Ultra, but as we said, its not going to help you with battlefield 2...

The FX series was a flop, because the before generation cards beat them in performance. If you want to play BF2, you should at least get an Nvidia 6 series card, or an ATI 9800 or higher at least.

I agree with Washe 100%, BF2 is one of the most poorly coded games, I have a p4 3.06ghz, 7600 GT, 1 gig of pc23200 ram, 7200 rpm 200gif WD HDD, online I would average about 25-60 fps. I am currently ordering an XFX 7900 GT, I returned the 7600 GT, and an extra gig of RAM, BF2 really requires 2 gigs of ram to play it without any hiccups.

Bikes have never been anywhere near a priority for police, here. Most seem to be recovered as part of a search warrant for some other stolen property, after an arrest for burglaries or similar.
Do you think this was a legitimate...
