| New way to power SLI setups http://www.svc.com/w0099ru.html http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/produc...0099/w0099.asp
- Standard 5.25" design fits into any 5.25" drive bay
- Two 6-pin PCI-Express connectors support nVidia SLI technology
- Works with main power supply reduce the loading on current PSU and no need to upgrade current PSU while running dual card mode
- Keeps stable power input for graphic cards to maximize the overclock-ability & performance
- Three LEDs display: red for power on, one green LED for 12V1, and another one for 12V2
- High reliability: MTBF>100,000 hours
- Protections: Input Circuit, Over Power, Short-Circuit, Under Voltage, Over Voltage, and Over-temperature protection
This is perfect for when you already have a decent PSU but are either having problems when running SLI or when overclocking...
At under $60 it is cheap when compared to a decent SLI certified PSU of sufficient power

What exactly does this thing do? It appears to pull power directly from the powersupply, so what is the advantage of having this over simply getting an adapter???

Oh, nevermind... I see the PCI slot adapter where you actually have to plug the thing in. |

Kind of kewl. Except if you got the money for SLI, you've obviously got the money for a decent PSU.
But i geuss as you stated: If you already have a decent PSU and dont wanna shell out 100$. |

And this isn't geared toward a beginning build list...
This is more for someone upgrading after the fact...
Lots of people build with an SLI board and one video card, and then when the cards come down a year later, upgrade to 2...
And at that point their 400-watter which was more than enough originally, is a bit stressed, so instead of chucking a perfectly good stable PSU just because of an upgrade, you can get a dedicated power source which also gives your PSU some headroom for other upgrades or overclocking...
Once there is a little competition and they come down, this will be a VERY effective way to upgrade... |

This is a BRILLIANT idea. i was gonna pick up a 600 watt PSU for my new build but now i may downgrade to a 500 watt or less and save myself some cash especially since the new conroes dont need as much power. and also that way i can pick up a DX10 card when they come out and then pick up one more when they are cheaper so a nice SLI or Crossfire setup.

Without the draw of SLI, You can EASILY use the ever popular 400W FSP for a fraction of the cost of most lesser brands with higher price tags and poorer quality...
SLI certification isnt whats its cracked up to be anyway... |

That is cool indeed.
Like Douce33 said, beats buying the expensive 600 watter.
Thanks JPMiller. |
