That extra ram will shorten game loading times when changing levels. Also WinXP usually runs smoother with 1Gb vs 512Mb.

Okay, I have added a second 512 of RAM.
How do I find out if they're working together? Is there somewhere on the computer that tells me how much RAM is available?

it's shown on the post screen, and in windows xp you can press control&alt&delete to open the task manager. Under the performance tab it has a box showing you 'Physical Memory (K)'
also under control panel/system the first page shown there tells you basic system specifications.

Most things are loading up and closing a lot faster, especially photoshop.
I tried out Half Life 2 on full settings and it runs smoothly.
Although some of the textures have holes in them. I've been told it's an issue with the new drivers, although it won't let me revert back to the old ones.
Here's a pic for anyone interested:

you should be able to use a driver cleanup to kill them all and reinstall

If I use that and remove all drivers, should I reinstall the default ones I got from my graphics card installation disk?

I have 91.47 and i played HL2 a few days back and did not have that problem.
But i did have that problem with the Beta drivers out now.Last edited by Dethrattle; October 13th, 2006 at 09:03 PM.

In case anyone is wondering, I solved the problem by underclocking my graphics card by 5MHz.

good to know the solution, but it's too bad you had to slow it down. you might need better case cooling to achieve normal clock rates. you don't have a card in the slot right next to your graphics card do you? that often impedes the cooling mechanism of the card.
