hey imos,
im a real paranoid guy.
my cat just knocked down my lcd (she thought it was my old crt she could sit on).
i was horrified, but it seems to work alright. the casing got cracked, but i was able to fit it back on, and shockingly, my dead pixel isnt there anymore!!!
is there are like potential for radioactive leakage or anyother nastiness that can come out of the lcd?
im a crazy person, but i ask anyway

No worries. What I'm curious about, is your cat sitting on your old CRT. How about all that cat hair getting in there? I have two cats. My small cat, Bob would be okay sitting on a CRT, but my other cat Iggy, would be way too big I can see cats getting off on the heat from the CRT, but all that hair! My cats really shed. All year round it seems.

i got freaked cause i read that plasmas have toxic gas thats released if the glass is broken, but i havnt found anything in my 30 minutes of paranoia searching the net.
the worst thing i could find was the fluorescentr bulb contains mercury, but the screen turns on, so the bulb works and cant really be cracked so thats fine...
my cat is small. she never got big. adn shes shorthair, so she sheds , but not that much. i figured she just wanted me to be looking at her, since i spend all my time looking at the screen. |

Thats an overwhelming factor for some people when they are deciding whether or not to buy a plasma.
Pretty sweet deal that your dead pixel went away. Maybe i'll tip over my spare 15" Dell lcd and see if luck comes my wayy. |

LCD and plasma screens are two different technologies. I thought the gasses used in a plasma screen were the noble, inert ones? So they wouldn't be poisonous per se, but you couldn't breathe too much without suffocating. There wouldn't be nearly enough in the screen to suffocate anything.

No, it won't harm you...
And don't get caught up in all the nut jobs that go crazy if anything has even the slightest bit of a chance of giving someone cancer or something about it is bad...
Like lead, most people freak out around it and don't want to touch it(they act like touching it or getting near it will kill them or something). But really you would need to be breathing and drinking lead(in water, if you drank molten lead you would be hurting ) for a very long time to get even some bad health risks.
Most people just over exaggerate the dangers of things, and to prove it you can look at this site: http://www.dhmo.org/facts.html
After you see some of it you can see how easy it is to fool someone about how "bad" something is if they don't even know what it is. There are a few people that go around with a fake petition and try to see how many fools that think it is bad to sign it. And if you didn't know, dihydrogen monoxide is water. |
