If your card supports DVI (most do), make sure your LCD display supports it too. Without going spec-crazy, let's just say that DVI digital is above and beyond "old" vga analog in everyway. Noting else to say. Did it myself last September.

Don't go for the high priced DVI cables which can run $50-$80. My new ViewSonic came with a free DVI cable. Price them on NewEgg or TigerDirect. If you don't have your LCD monitor yet, check to see if it comes with a DVI cable. It seems that the cable is coming with most LCDs that support DVI.

I had a Dell Ultrasharp connected to two computers, one through the VGA connector and the other through a DVI connector, bith running XP with virtually identical video cards. Switching back and forth, there was a barely perceptible difference in favor of DVI. But not enough to write home about. |

The cables are different. Don't buy DVI adaptors as a substitute for a DVI cable. All the DVI adaptors do, is allow you to use the DVI output on your video card with a standard VGA cable. It DOES NOT provide a digital output. The wires in a DVI cable are completely different from a VGA cable, so don't waste your money on an adaptor. It's not a cheap fix. Buy the cable. My ViewSonic is a widescreen display, so the DVI connection is a definite plus for me.

Shop for the cables. Most retail stores sell them in the $50 plus catagory. Check on the web. Even with shipping costs, you should get a better price. Good luck.
