Yup, everyone talks about BOTTLENECKING. People just want better performance, and they'll get that even if they cant run full AA or AF. |

Whatever. Believe what you want, waste your money on a 7800gs if you want. I shouldn't have even bothered with this. |

Did I say he should throw his money on a 7800gs? Please read before you post. I said get the best he can within reason. The x1650xt as suggested fits the bill.
If you've got conflicting evidecent to go against what i'm saying about these upgrades...please feel free to show us all. Like I said, the 6800xt is a joke of a card compared to what he could be getting for not too much more.

Sorry, it was frustration rather than anger, and it wasn't directed at you, but at SoloCamo. I wasn't saying that bottlenecking is a major reason not to buy a better card, I was saying that bottlenecking is a consideration depending on your settings, and may narrow the difference between cards to the extent that a cheaper card may be a better deal. I stand by this.
Furthermore, the 6800XT is not a joke of a card. A 9550 is. I personally wouldn't recommend spending the $160 on an X1650XT, when you're coming from a 9550 anyway and are on an obsolete AGP platform. In this case, I'd call a 6800XT 'good enough.' Sure, at higher settings you might find a measurable difference in FPS, but at more common settings, you're only going to get so much out of that CPU. I'm not sure if the 6800XT hits the limit of the CPU, but it's pretty close at least. It's still good for a lot of damn FPS. So, for $100 you can play any game out there. For $60 more (that's a kinda obscure company, so I wouldn't necessarily count on getting that rebate, btw), you can play any game out there with a few more settings enabled. Depends what's worth it to you. If the X1650XT is worth it to you, then cool, enjoy the gaming goodness.
But: Quote: |
That little extra 10mhz here and there does equal out to another few fps here and there
| And since that card is more than capable of sufficient framerates in any game I can think of, I'd wager that you're going by benchmarks rather than a difference you can see. Benchmarks are for bragging rights amongst bored geeks and insecure teenagers. Quote: |
The x800pro is bottlenecked in my system....just like the x1650pro would be in his...just like the 7800gs would be in mine as well. But that was not the point. The point is that even with the bottleneck I can guarantee you that there would be a difference between a 7800gs and x1650pro in performance, even with the 2.4ghz p4. | So you're saying, even though the X1650 will be limited by the CPU in the amount of FPS it can churn out, the 7800GS would somehow still be able to have better performance with the same limit? Using the same logic, going 140mph in a 400hp V12 car would somehow be faster than going 140mph in a 200hp V6 car? Does it really matter that the V12 can do 200, when nobody realistically goes that fast? That's how I see the FPS difference you'll see at, say, 1600X1200, full detail, AA/AF, etc. If you realistically use those sorta settings, fine, go for the bigger card, but you're a rare sort.
/I'm done here. |

You don't have a clue on anything, do you? Talk all the trash you want and direct all the anger and frustration at me, it really doesn't matter.
You don't know what you are talking about and thats the bottom line. You proved this to me when you said: Quote: |

Benchmarks are for bragging rights amongst bored geeks and insecure teenagers. | Did you not read that I measured my frame rates with a program called FRAPS? That's not even the worst part of your statement...Your going to tell me that a lowly x800pro is more than sufficient for framerates in any game you can think of? Are you still playing games from 2003? Because if you pop in a newer game like Fear or Oblivion you will easily find out this x800pro struggles with those games even at a meager resolution of 1024. And yes, compared to anything recent, the 6800xt IS a joke of a card, just like my old ti4200 is a joke. Even now, games are making a joke out of my overclocked X800pro. Besides, you calling the company HIS a "obscure company" is beyond proof that you are indeed lacking knowledge on this subject.
And yes, I do understand what are you are trying to say, by saying don't spend the money. But if he can get a great deal better performance for 60 bucks, why shoudln't he? It's not like a few hundred dollar difference, and if its in his price range, what is the problem? It's only benefiting him.
Don't try to call me out here when you don't even have a clue yourself.
And sorry to go off-topic, but the point needed to be made.
