I just got an ati radeon x1950 pro 256mb agp 8x from gecube.I first ran it from my old 300w psu for a day, as a lot of the guys down here where i shopped actually said it should work. i found stability probs, and taking no chances, bought an Omega 500w(Dual 12v rails, 15 amps each),connected both 4-pins from card each to seperate cable running straight from psu. Now it works great!! however, i still have a problem.
My desktop is set to 1024x768 16bit resolution, but the system still boots in 600x800.The desktop starts 600x800 then switches to 1024x768 in about a minute. I've set the res on catalyst. The current version is 7.7. I don't think it is the control centre though, because it was the same problem with the packaged driver.
Any idea?

What is the Native Resolution of your Monitor (assuming LCD) and does your cards factory presets support it?

did you change the resolution to 1024x768 in the old fashioned way as well??
right click anywhere on the desktop and click properties, then desktop and see what it says.
Could be a longshot, but my guess is that there it is set to 800x600 and as soon as ccc is loaded, that changes the setting to 1024x768

I'm using a philips 107e6 crt monitor capable of 1280 x 768. The card is capable of much higher. With the original driver it works fine, but as soon as i load ccc 7.7 (or even 7.6) the EDID detects a highest of 800 x 600. The original driver detects 1920 x 1080 at 120hz. So i don't think it's the card, but more the driver that's the problem. Maybe i should upgrade my monitor? The card is great with the games, but sometimes when i boot up or restart, i get funny broken images and blocks (like when u oc a card way, way too much). my card is not overclocked though and i didn't try it with this new baby. Will never risk it.I contacted gecube, but they haven't replied yet. It's been 2 days. oh yes, i formatted my pc when i got card, cause it needed a revamp since my girlfriend won't need it anymore, so i didn't want all her old stuff and applications(plus had uninstall issues with csi, cod2 and another hardware driver for external cd-writer. All went fine. I did however manage to crash my pc with stupid things written on cd's. When i reset the pc the same problem also occurred. But i don't think it's the crash.problems wereb before that.

It turns out that my desktop doesn't load with the saved settings(which i did the old fashioned way as well, and applied)while desktop loads i open the properties to find it set on 800x600.and if i don't change that before ccc loads, i get scary visuals on screen. What will mess up your saved settings? |

I found an udate for driver, thanks.
I also redid my desktop settings and saved. It might have been that i missed having the theme in classi style, but having butttons and windows in xp style. Whichever it was, this 3 year-old formatted baby works like a dream now.
Thanks again. |
