| x1900pro or complete new system?
Current system is-
3200+ AMD socket 939
Asus A8n-E mobo
ATI x800xl
1 gig ram
400 watt Sparkle psu
Have been playing CS:S faithfully now for quite awhile, and am considering some kind of upgrade.
Hoping I can just salvage my comp and throw in a fortron 500 psu and (considering) an ATI x1900pro 256mb.
Assuming I would make great gains in fps, not sure if the rest of the system is just getting too old now, or if it wouldn't bottleneck it really? Not entirely sure myself.
Opinions and suggestions much appreciated.
-btw, I think this site has grown alot since I was last here. I myself tell everyone with a computer to use it, lol.

intel p4 3ghz ht
Intel d865glc agp mobo
1 gig ddr400 sdram
windows xp home sp2
Ati x1950 pro 256mb
Omega 500w dual rail 12v 30amps
My system is about 3 yrs old. The card works beautifully. How old is ur pc?
Consider the card release date in comparison with ur pc's age.
I believe it should work very well if ur cpu is good. I don't know amd models.
But as u can see my pc is also aged a little aged, but the card works fantastic. x1900 will increase ur framerates significantly, Though if u can, u should rather concider 1950 pro. The 1950 might bottleneck ur system, but the pro is a great card. no regrets. try to get a 500w psu. it's also a very important piece of hardware, I believe especially for older systems.

I dont see any reason to waste money on a different power supply...
Unless you going SLI or adding a WHOLE lot more, you should be fine |

An x800xl is showing it's age. Go with the video card, your system still has plenty of life in it.
That 400w psu will be more than adequate.

Yeah, that's true.
1900 will work on 400w. Don't change it unless u want 1950 and can afford it. |

So the PSU would be sufficent? I was going to buy an x1950pro late last year, then didn't when I realized I would also have to buy at least a $100 psu to go with it. That was the only thing that really held me back.
I had meant 1950pro originally, just forgot the 50.
They are about $200 plus tax everywhere (in canada) I have looked. Seems steep for an old card but Toms has them still listed as being half decent in comparison against the newer stuff. Of course Toms is testing the cards in a dream machine though, lol.
May grab one if the PSU will work though.
Found the Psu at newegg- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104032

The PSU should be able to handle it, but you'll need 2 molex connectors free.

Assuming that sparkle psu is of very high quality, It will definitely work. That 200$ seems very good price if it is agp, My agp (i live in south africa)
was about 50 bucks more. For a pci-e it,s quite a steep price though. Either way, u won't regret ur choice at all buying that. The 2400 and up i heard have a lot of cons compared to the pros. Performance for their prices are apparently not worth it. But the x1950 does a great job. Playing lock on and pf with incredible fps on full graphics, And m2tw performs great on high settings. Brothers in arms and cod play incredible on full graphics. |
