| :( my x1950 pro won't turn on! help me plz
Just wasted all my money on updating my computer (im a bit of a noob at this) connected everything up and nothing outputs to my screen.
I have a Antec 480W power supply with a 28A on the 12V+ rail.
I have a powercolor x1950 pro (refurbished)
2 HDD (250gb and 40gb)
3 gbs of ram (2x1gb 2x512mb)
Amd Athlon 64 x2 4800+
1 DVD Rw+/-
Ok so i connected everything up. I connect the molex to the card, and i connected everything to the motherboard. The computer seemed to struggle to turn on sometimes so i took out 3 sticks of ram and unplugged 1 of my Hard Drives and and my dvd drive to see if was a power problem but the card wont output anything. the fan on the card is working though, and i didn't damage it during installation. I ordered a new psu http://www.coolmaxusa.com/productDet...ategory=single
but i cant find a psu that has the recommened 30A on a 12V rail. I find it hard to believe that the card i got doesnt work. helpppp. i will take pictures of the inside of my case...mayb i missed someithng |

I got an x1950 pro last week and had the same problem, tough i think circumstances might be different. I forgot to connect the power to the card. I used the card's 6 pin - 4 pin connecter. The six pins went into the card and the other two ends each went into a power cable running straight to the psu. they have to go straight to the psu. See how u plugged everything. Maybe unplug all, plug in the card first to cable from the psu, then plug the rest in.maybe have to plug the hdd plug into card and different one into hdd. I had to do that. I ran it on a 300w psu the first night to see if it works(could wait till next day for the 500w i ordered.plugged the 500w in the same way. I'm not sure how much this helps, but if ur monitor keeps going into standby, there is'n enough power. Open the case and make sure the card is plugged into plugs that run the most direct line to psu, meaning the plug that has another one running from itself. |

i will try that. one thing though. all my power cords are unlabelled so im not overly sure which ones you are talking about but i think i do) you know the power rails (molex i think they are called) that normally go into the back of a hard drive or a dvd drive, i am using one of those on the card. is this right? |

those are the ones. 4-pins. the can be 3-wire even though they have 4 pins. If ur cable plug out of the back of ur psu, do this.
take two cables.plug each end into the psu as they should go. U'll see the cable going into a molex, the extending on a second strin to another molex. plug that firs molex into a 4pin connecor going to ur card. Do this with both cables. then plug card cable's six pin inti card.
I ur cables are fixed to ur psu, the principle is the same.Just take the cables and plug that first molex into card molexes. All the extended molexes that are left u can plug into hdd,cd-drive, etc.
If u still have problem the best would be to contact manufacturer or take ur pc to a technician so he can look.
Let me know how u do. |

A bigger psu will not make a difference to this problem. As i said, mine ran off a 300w for a day.Don't send back the psu though. A stronger one is always better. If everything plugged in correctly, i think u should contact support from manufacturer. |

Please if you can try another card. Perhaps the slot may be faulty. Trying another card may help to rule out or confirm.

What motherboard do you have?(model #)
To me it doesn't sound like a power issue, it sounds like a driver issue, or lack there of. Try the card in another machine, if you can, see if it works.
Do you have onboard video? Do you have another card that will fit the same slot on the motherboard. Try it and see if they work. If your onboard video works, then you know it's not power. |

"The power connector is also placed at the top right corner of the AGP board, whereas on PCIe X1950 Pro cards it’s located in the center. Interestingly enough, it’s a 6-pin PCIe power connector and not the standard Molex power connector you usually see on most AGP cards. Fortunately PowerColor includes a 6-pin power adapter inside the board’s packaging in case your system’s power supply isn’t equipped with a 6-pin " http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/...view/page2.asp
