X1950 pro frustration

I got a new 512 ati x1950 pro agp card the other day.

Popped it in and anfter a few teathing problems all was good......until i tried to changed the display res, now when i turn my pc on it starts as normal, the windows xp logo comes up and then my monitor turns off.

Its like the DVI sockets on the card suddenly die, im using a normal monitor, one of the big buggers, not a flatscreen. my old card works fine so its not the agp socket and i tried the DVI socket on that card and it worked fine so it aint that.

The only thing i can i can think of is that its some kind of software issue and that somehow changed the res has turned part of the card off for some god forsaken reason thast im yet to figure out. Ive tried uninstalling all the drivers for both the old and the new cards and then reinstalling the new ones but it doesnt have any effect.

In the mean time ive had to go back to using my old card, anyone got any ideas on how to sort this out?

Have you tried updating your monitor drivers?

Can you start the OS in safe mode with the new video card once you install the new drivers?

Change the resolution using safe mode. It seems that the video card driver is using a refresh rate that is not supported by the monitor and once it is loaded by the OS it's causing the monitor to turn off.

See what happens and tell us.

EDIT: Read the monitor's instruction booklet and see if you can find the resolutions and refresh rates it can support.

that worked like a charm, cheers for the help.

Started the pc in safe mode, lowed the refresh rate on the card in safe mode and did a full uninstall and reinstall of the drivers.

Works fine now, still a little twitchy but thats ati for you.
