LCD screen malfunction

I've gotten my hands on a Norwood MT9ANK 19" LCD monitor that has a peculiar problem. The monitor only stays on for about 5 seconds.

When it's hooked up and powered on, you see the 'no signal'. When the PC starts, you can see the POST screen. If you go into BIOS it shows the menus. But only for about 5 seconds no matter what, then it goes black, not signal loss, cause it doesn't say 'no signal', but just black.

During a startup, you see the POST, XP spash screen, and then the desktop sequentialy, but only for about 5 seconds each. Every time the monitor would normaly go blank it does and comes back on for whatever display, but goes black after 5 seconds again.

When on the desktop, I can power the monitor off and back on again, but it only shows the desktop for the estimated 5 seconds.

The person I got the monitor from said it was functioning normaly and just started doing this 'out of the blue'.

I've only dabbled into LCDs as far as laptops, so I really don't know what to think. Anyone can tell me what's wrong, or maybe give me some testnig procedures to help diagnose it?

Has the monitor worked before, and do you have another monitor to try it out with? Because it is possible that the resolution of your desktop is to high for your monitor to handle...or to low.
