| X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 AGP
27 days ago i bought a 7600GT and wasnt too impressed with it. im tempted to take it back and buy a X1950 instead (only 3 days left).
Can anyone tell me how much difference there will be between the two, good and bad points about the X1950.
I was told that some cards with 512 ram cant handle it and it actually slows them down. Is this the case with the X1950? http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s...tml?sap-950p5a
Thanks! |

In most of the newer cards the extra memory helps run larger resolutions. Some of the older 512Mb cards were a bit slower, but IMO anymore, that's not really an issue.
The 1950 will be quite a bit faster, so it'll be a nice improvement.
But the other thing is if the 7600GT isn't performing all that good, it could be a bottleneck of some type going on that's impairing performance.
What's the rest of your specs? I know you've posted them before, but I'm too lazy to look for them.
If your running an older CPU, that's more then likely the factor... |

My CPU is a AMD Athlon 64, 2000 MHz (10 x 200) 3200+
One thing i just noticed while looking at Everest, it says AGP is disabled ( http://img205.imageshack.us/my.php?i...p132310dn1.jpg), could this be affecting its performance? On the BIOS page it also says my BIOS is over 2 years out of date, could this be affecting anything as well?
Thanks. |

Well I see a couple of problems when looking at your screeny.
First, you should have the AGP enabled in bios, it can only help
Second, it says it's only running @ 4x, which is effectively only half the speed it should run. So while your in bios, make sure it's set to 8x speed.
Adjust those settings and see if that helps.(it should tremendously)
But your CPU is still bottlenecking you GPU. There's nothing you can really do about it unless you get a new cpu.
Here's something you might find interesting.. AMD to Intel switch, need help. |

Wow i didnt realise how an old cpu could affect your FPS so much.
OK i went into BIOS and set the primary video adaptor to AGP, it was PCI before, but its stil lnot enabled. i also couldnt find any settings to do with speed. |

Well the speeds is probably in the Nvidia control panel. Look around in the settings menu there..
I don't know what to tell you about the AGP disabled deal. It should be enabled if it's set right in the bios.
You should check in to a newer bios though. It may help you out here. And if not, it may fix other issues you have... |

That's the site but i have no idea which series or model my mobo is, Everest doesnt seem to tell me.
When i chose motherboard from the first list, how can i find what series it is for the 2nd list? |

First, your link is broke.
Second, download PC Wizard, and run it. It will tell you the model #. |

Huh..Well my guess is skt 939. But it could be a skt A too.
Can you open up your case, and look for the model # of the board? You should be able to spot it easily.
Most asus model #'s start with a A. Look for something like that...
IDK how else to identify your MoBo besides that... |
