Battle of the Cheap 28" Comp. Monitors

Cheap as in "inexpensive" --but who knows about the other sense.

Both have decent reviews at NEWEGG and you can see them as below

    OPINIONS folkes ? ? ?

Also, your opinion of Hanns-G is also appreciated. While it may not fully apply to this particular model, It seems to have just come out of nowhere.

Viewsonic's rep seems to have gone down lately....is that just my imagination, or so ?

Both models come with THREE year Warrentee and both sell for under $700, including shipping. COSTCO also sells them at times.

Neither IMO. Instead spend a few more dollars to buy a 32" or 42" 1080p LCD HDTV with native 1920x1080 support via RGB or DVI, assuming you have the room for such a large display.

    Neither have DVI...
I wouldnt spend that much money on a stand-alone computer moniter. If you are planning on gaming, I hope you have a 8800series GPU, because the 1920x1200 resolution is a monster.
IMO, get a HDTV LCD, that way you use it as a computer moniter and a TV.

From the user reviews Ive seen Hanns-G has had pretty good marks. They seem to usually have models that compete in the lower price range with better specs than the competition.

If I were to choose between the two models, Id go for the Viewsonic. More inputs! Looks better. Reputation.

I'm with RR on this one also..

I would check out Vizio's. They have some nice pictures for the price IMO.
Just about picked one up myself a couple of times, but the woman put a stop to it..

But you can get a 37"/42" Plasma for the price of the two you listed..

I would suggest against using a plasma HDTV for a daily-use computer display unless one is already well associated with the risks of image retention and burn in.

About particilar affordable models, I have this in my den....

....and it works well for a computer monitor, even at extremely close viewing distances. Then again, it is also one of the highest rated tier-two HDTV models on the market as well.

I have a PNY nVidia Quadro FX560 with DVI single-link output of 1920 X 1200 and dual-link of 3840X 2400, but I haven't installed it yet because the PSU must be upgraded and I'm looking to upgrade the CPU to dual-core too. I got it new from a liquidator for about $220 +. That computer has MCE 2005 OS and I'm looking to make it into a media center.

Hmmm..better check on the Toshiba Regza 32" HDTV (small LR !), to see what its native resolution is. It plays at up to HDMI 1050i and 780(?) p. Right now, I'm on Digital Standard Cable, but I plan to switch soon to HD Cable.

I wanted a smaller HDTV for the bedroom...about 23" - 26" and run it off the same STB as the BD shares the same wall with LR, and is a short cable run . .

But then I saw the Computer monitors and figured it would be better on eyes to use a computer monitor as an HDTV , than to use an HDTV as a computer monitor.
Remember, a lot of TV is generally low resolution as are the old movies on TV at nite. So I figured I didn't need a great TV reception (cable) with TVespecially so long as I had the TOS Regza HDTV.

A crummy computer monitor is really bad for the eyes --so I figured to be more fault-tolerant on the TV side than on Computer in a dual-use Screen. An HDTV would probably be less trouble than running a Comp Monitor as a HDTV........ However, the Viewsonic Monitor does have HDMI, plus a bunch of other connectors.

Consensus seems to be leaning toward HDTV...good experience as computer monitor ? Have they become that good as monitors ?
