| Just got an 8600gts, have a question
I just purchased an evga GeForce 8600gts. The card has a power input at the end thats supposed to connect it to the PSU now heres my question. The cable that it came with has one input that plugs into the video card and it splits into 2 PSU inputs. Do i need to connect both the psu inputs to the psu or just one? |

NO, you need to connect BOTH. There is a reason there are two 4 pin molex connectors going into a 6pin power connector for the video card. It isn't there for looks. Not only do you need to connect both of them, but you should do so from two seperate branches coming from the PSU.
If your PSU already has a 6pin SLI power connector, you don't need to use that adapter at all, simply plug that in directly to your video card.

No, you still have it completely wrong. A 6 pin PCI-E connector is the equivalent to 2x4pin Molex connector. Hence why you MUST plug in BOTH connectors to power the 6 pin PCI-E connector.
It's not optional, it is just so it may draw enough power from two sources, the 6 pins aren't split off of one, but two connectors. Theres nothing in the adapter that combines them, instead they are separately connected in the adapter. If it were two PCI-E 6 pin molex connectors it would need four molex connectors. Thats why RamonGTP's advice is correct to plug them into two different power sources, not off the same strand.
Just out of curiosity to the original poster. What type of power supply do you have, make/model/power? It might be nice to know so you don't run into any troubles as these new video cards can really take a lot of power and need a minimum amount of amps to run correctly.
This might help you know if your power supply is enough to run it safely: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/p...ulatorlite.jsp
