Time to upgrade the trash
I currently have a trashy ATI x1900GT. I am looking to upgrade it because it has been artifacting randomly in game for months now. I am looking to spend around $150 tops. Not really looking for much of an upgrade, just want to replace this card because I don't want to deal with ATI/AMD bs. Their site and support is so complicated and terrible right now that I am not even going to bother wasting my time with them.
I was looking at the 8600GT which seems to be going for around 100 bucks. Is it a good bang for the buck or is there something better for slightly more $$?
Any feedback would be great

HI there.
In your price range, I think the 8600GTS would be your best option. Look for the GTS model though. The GT is good, but for the extra few bucks on a GTS model, why not?
Of course, all this if your wanting to go the DX 10 route. If your wanting a DX 9 card, then the X1950 is a great bang for the buck card. But if your looking for Nvidia, then look for a 7900GS or GT. Obviously, the GT is better, but more pricey too..
Good luck!Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

How does the 8600GTS compare to the 8600GT? Unless the performance difference is noticable and significant, I wouldn't want to spend the extra $50 on it.

What's wrong with AMD/ATI's support? I've never heard of any problems. On top of that, their site isn't any more complicated than nVidia's or Intel's. If you can kick in a little more cash, the HD3850 is a great card.

I have contacted ATI and AMD directly before and I have never had any problems acessing either one of their phone numbers or contacting their support directly. However, ever since they merged their website is crap. You click on ATI support and you get re-directed to AMDs part of the site and then have to click on another 2-3 links in order to get where you originally intended to get to. The thing that suprised me the most when I tried to contact ATI is that I had to register in order to get acess to their phone numbers. That is the most bs I have witnessed thus far when dealing with any tech support. On top of which, the page would never load so that just made me even angrier and I stopped wasting my time with them.

He certainly has input. But then he "knows nothing"... in fact, he thought Benghazi was a sandwich until he read it in the paper the next day...
