| 9800 SE (128bit) vs. 8500gt
Currently I have a 9800 SE, 256mb, 128bit card (cheapest 9800 available at the time). Due to what i think is a dead mobo, I'll probably be replacing it with one that has a pci express x16 slot.
Since I now have access to the newer cards, would a 8500gt preform better than my old 9800 SE?
9800 SE: 128bit, 256mb DDR, 350Mhz core, 300MHz memory, 4 pipelines
8500gt im looking at: 128bit, 256mb GDDR3, 600MHz core, 1200Mhz memory, 16 streams
Now ... simply by compairing numbers and newer technoligies, the 8500gt should smash the 9800 SE, is this assumption accurate?
Would an 8400gs beat the 9800 SE?
8400gs: 64bit, 256mb GDDR2, 450MHz core, 800MHz memory, 8 streams.
(half the bit, but over double the speed...)
I can get a good 8400gs for 30 bucks (after rebates) and the 8500gt for 50 bucks (factory overclocked 33.3%, after rebates). |

8400GS... @ 64-bit? probably not. 8500GT I would imagine should be at the very least comparable, if not better... (leaning towards better, by a decent amount) |

thanks for the link JP , its always been annoying with the 3D charts at Toms hardware, not being able to compare cards from several generations to each other, at least with this link it basically just lists where they lie in a line up to one another...
looking at that list, I never realized my old 7800GT was so far down the list from my current 320MB 8800GTS |

Its just a general ranking, and plenty of those are really a tie for the same spot so they are not all as far from each other as it sometimes looks, but your right its a little easier to sorta gauge where things fall that way |

Ah cool, so investing 50 bucks in a 8500gt will give me a preformance boost, neato |
