| HELP !! A bit worried !! 8800GTX
Hello all im a complete new boy at computers but i have just bought and had installed tonight a new graphics card. Its a NVidia Point of View GeForce 8800GTX. The problem i have getting is that whilst playing a game for about 5mins or so the system just completely switches itself off and reboots. Any ideas what this maybe ?? |

Yes, VERY likely a power supply issue...
Those cards use ALOT of power and need very steady clean power to perform correctly...
Hard shutdowns are an obvious sign of an underpowered or shoddy PSU
What is the brand, and the +12V Amperage from the sticker on the side of the power supply?
Also give us a basic list of your other specs...
You don't have to be TOO specific, just basic components |

If CIT is the Brand name, then its Generic...
Where are you from... in general?... the states?
on paper it should have enough power for what you seem to have, but that means nothing when it comes to power supplies...
If you want to learn more read through the sticky so you have a better understanding of WHY this is important...
Then look at thr brands listed under the "good" list and choose something with high +12V amps, check with us to verify or get more options...
Whats your price range? |

Well first off make sure this isnt a heat issue...
or memory for that matter...
Check your temps by using something like everest ultimate or Everesthome
And Memtest for your memory...
Cooler Master is OK, but I would look at something more like The Seasonic line
or http://www.ebuyer.com/product/115880
Wich would actually be my first pick
Even if ultimately it didnt turn out to be a strictly power related isue, I would replace the power supply... bottom line

not sure about everest, as the free versions no longer work well with a lot of newer components, I run it on my system, with a Core 2 Duo & nVidia 650i mobo & can never get any temp readings from it, only for my vid card, thats it, also some other info seems to not be gathered or gathered correctly too... so maybe recommend some other free programs that could take temp readings, just in case it doesn't work for him either?
otherwise the paid versions of Everest should work though. |
