256MB of GDDR3 memory versus 512 MB of GDDR2 memory?

    Greetings!

This is kind of a general question but I see a number of nVidia based (mid-range) graphics cards (e.g. 8600gt, 7600gt) that, as near as I can tell, appear to be identical except that they can be purchased with either 256MB of GDDR3 memory, or 512 MB of GDDR2 memory for similar prices.

My question is which memory configuration would give better performance with a given card, 256MB of GDDR3 memory, or 512 MB of GDDR2 memory, and how much performance difference is there?

    Thanks,

    Doug D.

for those two cards definatly the faster ddR3 256mb memory. both those cards cannot possibly use that much memory unless your using some ginormous 30 inch screen or somthing. hence less but faster memory is the smarter choice
