What's your budget?
Honestly, there are much better offerings then those.
My first suggestion, would be the 8800gs. Priced at $129 (after rebates) it will smoke anything in the same price range. Especially the 8600. The 8800GS is the replacement for the 8600.
But if I had to choose between the two you linked to, the 8600 outperforms the 2600 by a good margin. |

Yea, of those two the factory overclocked 8600GT XXX is your best bet performance wise. You will see a nice performance improvement from your old X850.

sky's the limit ,but this is a 4yr old computer (look at my specs at the bottom) and I rather spend the extra money on a new build. So I'm looking for the best bang for the least bucks

Well if your gonna be getting a new rig soon, then I'd just go for the 8600. It's the cheaper of the two, and will run most games decent.
But the 8800GS still is a awesome bang for the buck card. Just FYI.
Good luck |

Well if you are going to make a new build.. get a 8800GT.. more future proof and heaps better than a 8600...

Haha, you guys seem to have forgetten the power of the old x800/x850 series.
If I remember correctly, lukes x850 is an x850xt platinum edition, aka top of the top back then. Hell, I was running an x800pro w/ 16 pipes and his GPU always scored much higher.
Now i'm using an x1950pro which on average performs 5-10fps higher than my 16 pipe x800pro...
A 8600gt, and especially a 2600xt/pro are not going to be worthy replacements if he wants the same or better performance of his dead x850. My x1950pro is a far better card than those two and if I'm only getting mediocre gains in FPS over a card that is slower than his x850...well I think my point was hopefully made

Yea, anything less than a 8800gt/gts is not worthy of using DX10, even if it did support it. |

so my point would be to get a better card rather then just get a replacement.. I would do it since you have to purchase a new one anyways |
