| Xbox 360-quality graphics on a PC?
I have a gift certificate of about $2500 after the shop ruined my old PC... According to people I know, non-portable PC's (I don't know the English word, I'm from Norway) jare quite cheap now... So my plan is to buy both a PC and a TV for the money...
However, a friend of mine has an Xbox 360, and I wonder if it's possible to get 360-quality graphics on a PC? If so, how much does it cost? For example I'd like to make games like FIFA 08 on the PC have good graphics... I doubt it's possible, but I thought I'd ask. |

Xbox 360 graphics are terrible compared to what you get with even a midrange gaming PC.
I'd guess you mean a Desktop when you say non-portable PC.
I know I could build a gaming PC that is much more powerful than the Xbox 360 for $700 USD or so, but I do not know how much the same parts would cost you in Norway, especially if you get a pre-built (I know in England and Ireland it is about 20-50% more for the same parts). |

It all depends on the game. For the far majority of games they will be able to be much higher quality than on any console. |

Cool, thanks for your help!
Just one more question: My mate once told me that it's possible to play Xbox 360 games on the PC if I buy some special thing to put in the PC...I don't remmber exactly what he said. Do you think it can be possible? |

There are some games that will not look as good on a PC as they do on a console simply because the developer designed it primarily with the console in mind and just did a quick port over to the PC side. Sports games are one such genre, Madden looks a lot better on my cousins PS3 than I've seen it look on any PC.
If your primary concern is sports games, stick with the console, the PC's simply cannot compare, not becuse of the hardware as PC hardware is plenty capable, but like I said, the developers don't take the time to properly port the game to the PC.
If you're into shooters, that's where the PC really shines.

My son has the X-Box 360, a Sony PS2 and my daughter has a Nintendo Game Cube and a Wii. Although they love their game machines, they also have game PCs and swear to their non-gaming pc friends that the PC is much better. My son blew his friends away when he showed them BIOSHOCK on his new Intel Dual Core desktop we just finished building for him.

AMD Phenum 8500 or 9500 (one guy said 8500, another 9500...)
4GB RAM DDR2, LAN, WiFi
1TB HD - 320GB EXT
nVidia GeForce 8600 GT (512/1279)
This is the info from the shop, about a gaming PC... So are these specs good? |

Not really. an xbox 360 and PS3 are WAY better than that.
First things first.
Ditch the AMD setup, they are nowhere near as good as the Intel Q6600. The Phenom's run hotter, use more power, are slower, don't overclock as good and actually have a processor error in them that could lead to instability and system crashes.
Secondly, that video card blows. Get atleast an nVidia 9600GT or better yet, an 8800GT. If you go the ATI route, the HD 3870 is a good one. |

OK, but unfortunately I only have $2500... Can you recommend something for that price? |
