| Lines stick out characters Greets,
I have this problem. After an hour, or so, playing a 3d game like counterstrike source, assasins creed or Tom Clancy's rainbow six 2 I get this weird graphics error.
What I usually see is that there is a line (or pole) sticking out of the characters heads. This pole is usually a few feet long.
In counterstrike it looks like a line of sight, but it's not. Instead it sticks out of the other characters heads.
In Tom clancy it's generally the same as in CSS.
In Assasins creed the lines seem to go into the sky if the originate from buildings and intersect with my charachter if they originate from other charachters. Here they also seems to originate from the different characters.
Does this sounds familiar to anyone? And what can I do to fix this?
I have an ati radeon x1900xt 512mb video card. |

| Update: It's usually 1 line that sticks out of the charachters heads.
Also, I don't believe my GFX card is overheating, but it does look like an artifact I guess. (yet I believe artifacts are not restricted to a single artifact but rather you usually would see alot of artifacts?) |

| You can try to rule-out overheating (posting acutal temps would help).
Open up your case and get a fan blowing into it. Not super turbo mode, you just want to get some more air circulating in the case. See if that helps.
Power supplies have also been blamed for such artifacting. What brand, wattage and amps do you have on your 12V rails? |

| I started monitoring my GPU temp. It stays stable at 58c with only 32% fan speed during Rainbow six 2 Vegas. My gfx fan is a Zalman VF900-Cu. Visually saw that fan is working properly. Also cleaned the inside of PC. My GFX card is a ATI Radeon x1900xt 512mb oc'ed from core/mem 500/600 to 540 648. My powersupply is a Antec True Control II 550 Watt ActivePFC. I Oc'ed my enroe dualcore e6600 to nearly 3300 mhz. Temp on that is also beneath 50c at all times. Got a Zalman CPU cooler CNPS9500 AT copper, 775 on the CPU. I haven't got a screenshot yet, but i'll be sure to supply one very soon. |

| Not saying this is the problem, but can you turn your overclocks back to stock speeds and see if the problem persists? |

OCing will cause "artifacts", which is what your seeing during your games. I would put my money on the OC causing the problems.
Revert back to stock settings, see if it still persists. Which I almost bet it won't..

Revert back to stock settings, see if it still persists. Which I almost bet it won't.. | Even throttling back the OC'ing to slightly more stock settings may help with the artifacting. |

| Thank you for the help.
I'll be sure to throttle back the OC or cancel the OC.
My card was Oc'ed even more in the past (till a few days ago, I assumed it might have something to do with it).
It was core/mem 620/720 which proved to be unstable when benching it also.
Now it's still 540/648 so I'll be sure to check the results of this first, in hopes that the artifacts will lessen.
If artifacts still continue then I'll cancel the Oc completely.
Thanks again. |
