Well, in general, the 8800GT is better then the 9600GT, the 9600GT is better then the 3870 with AA turned on, with it off the 3870 and 9600GT are about even, with a slight advantage going to the 3870.
I myself have the EVGA 9600GT that you linked to in your post, and I'm pretty happy with it. The only game I can't max out is Crysis, and in 1280x1024 I can max that out.
My res. is 1680x1050 btw.
Really, if you can catch the 8800gt for the same price, get that. If you find a sweet deal on the 9600GT, get that.
And about the 1gig Palit card, that would be good if you plan on hooking up to a large display, but other then that, I don't really see the point in that much Vram.
Just my two cents.

eh, it's not just the 1Gb extra of RAM...It appears that all of the Palit cards are factory OCed fairly nicely and have extra ports on them, such as GP, SP/DIF, etc...nice lil extra's, IMO...I was just wondering what people thought of the brand...I've been looking around and haven't really seen any bad reviews for the cards other than the fact that some sites have said that 1GB is unnecessary right now (they put that as a "CON"). There's also 512MB versions of the Palit cards which are nicely priced as well.

So, I think I am going to go with one of the 2 Palit cards...what do ya'll think:

The 8800GT 1Gb version which is $179.99 and has a $20 MIR:
Newegg.com - PALiT NE/880TSXT302 GeForce 8800GT SONIC 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Or the 9600GT 512Mb version which is $169.99 and no MIR:
Newegg.com - PALiT NE/960TSX0252 GeForce 9600GT SONIC 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Both cards are very nicely factory OC'ed and have all the extra niceties and a free game Whatcha think?
