| DDR2 graphics card.....DDR mobo
Hello
I have put this thread in the motherboard section aswell.
Will a graphics card with DDR2 memory work in a motherboard that only supports DDR memory.
I am having a lot of problems trying to get a nvidia geforce 6200 8xAGP
256 DDR2 to work in my motherboard which is a PCChips M848A rev 2.1
I am using a geforce 4MX440 at the moment with no problems
I have Windows ME. AMD athlon XP2400 and 512 ram
Thanks |

Your problem may simply be a driver issue. Try uninstalling the MX440 drivers, shutdown the computer, take out the MX440, put in the 6200, and turn on the computer. That should work.
The memory on the card doesn't matter to the motherboard, only the main RAM does. |

I get a problem as soon as i switch machine on. There are horizontal lines on screen. The left side of screen is quite clear but from the middle to the right side is very blurry and unreadable. Have tried taking out drivers and re-installing all to no avail.
If it was a software driver issue then it would not happen right from the "switch on" as the drivers are not loaded until later on.
When i first boot up the very first screen i see is what the graphics card is. It does pick the new one up but the screen is blurred.
I am upgrading from an AGP x4 to an AGP x8. Have looked everywhere in the bios and connot see a toggle swith to change it. I am assuming the mobo will pick it up automatically.

Is it a CRT monitor? If so, it may be that there is a magnet in the area.
Then you'll need to degauss the monitor. |

No...it is an LCD flatscreen. It is an ACER AL1916 monitor. |

Is the card new? Or did you get it second hand?
That's a sign of a overheating card, (which I doubt because it's from a cold boot) or just a bad GPU to begin with.
New cards can have defects. It does happen from time to time.
The other thought I'm having is possibly a PSU issues. What is the make and model of your PSU? All the info should be on the sticker of the side of the unit itself.
The more info, the better.
Good luck! |

I'm with Karma in thinking that your GeForce 6200 video card is bad. I would suggest seeing if it can be returned to the place you purchased it from for a replacement.

Thanks all.....yes it is a new one. Have been in "talks" with the seller for the past week, and he keeps asking me to try different things. He reckons its a software issue but i'm not so sure.
btw.....power supply is a jeantech 400 watt. That is relatively new. ( 6 months ) |

Hi again
Card has been returned to supplier but when they tested it it works perfectly.
Anyone got any more thoughts on this matter
Thanks
ps...this is what it says in the motherboard manual..
AGP (accelerated graphics port) slot
The AGP slot is used to install 3D graphics adaptor that supports the 8x AGP card which is also backward compatible with 4xAGPcard. The slot is keyed to support only the latest 1.5-volt AGP cards.
Does the 1.5-volt have any relevance?

Reason: Added the ps
