OK, just got home from work, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, been one of those days

(babysitting my supervisor because he can't grasp the concept of staying in the damn dept & stay working, has to find every stupid chance to disappear & not tell anyone where he went "Oh, I had to get a pick-up at the service counter...", that took 25 freakin' minutes?
yeah one of those people, somehow he's got the fulltime position, 40 hours a week, medical benefits, 2.5 less years there than me, & I'm stuck with the sh*t part time position... and most of the major work?
Anyways, after tinkering around with the settings in game, there was a point where at the one encampment down the road from Kvatch, everytime I would look toward even one person, the frame rate would tank to 20-25fps, even from up in 60-70 range... at first I thought it was the shadow detail & effects after turning those down & off, still wasn't much gain in frames...
so then I tried some of the fade distances, nothing, then I noticed looking into campfire frames dropped some, so I figured it was the specular distance option, nope, not much gain there, then while talking to people, I got sick & tired of the damned HDR lighting, that seems to illuminate every stinking AI character in the game, as if the whole kingdom was built on some sort of ancient Aeylid Radioactive waste site or something
its one of the most annoying features in the game, the somewhat crappy implementation of HDR lighting... turn it off & things tend to look a little "boring" but at least it isn't with the color bleeding glowing effect you get with everything else...
well wouldn't you know it, turned HDR off, restarted the game, then exited again, then went into nVidia control panel turned off the forcing of 4x AA, set to application controlled, went back in game, jacked on 4x AA, Bloom lighting instead, & most settings to max, except Interior & Exterior Shadow detail/setting... interior is set at like near around 60-70%, & Exterior is at around 30-40%, but can't really tell much difference anyways... I think there was one or two other settings turned down just a notch, & self shadows is off, but everything else is on High, or maxed, & getting good frames... just a bit of stutter or jerking when some structures or objects "pop" in, thinking it might be HDD not reading data fast enough, but could be just the game too... but for most part runs with very good frame rates at that res.
no it will be interesting to see how Bethesda's next game will run, Fallout 3
can't imagine it being any worse, a nuclear fallout environment is kind of lacking in the lush beautiful tree & plant life, rushing water, & birds & all sorts of other things LOL... but won't know for sure till October...
suppose I could buy Crysis now
