red line down my screen
There is a weird red line down the left side of my screen. It is annoying at most...it would not be so bad if it were ANY colour but red.
Anyway, I am pretty sure that it is permanent, but I was wondering if there are any suggestions you guys could give me to try to get rid of it just in case it is not. I have already tried:
Installing the omega driver for the card (I installed it after the problem began)
Refreshing
changing resolutions
changing colour from 32bit to 16 bit and back"I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend to be one of those deaf-mutes" Or Should I?

Can we assume this is an LCD? Have you tried another monitor, which will tell you immediately if this is a video card (doubtful) or monitor (likely) problem?

I am pretty sure it is a monitor problem, because for things like changing resolution or booting up (when the video card is inactive) there is the red line....

Sounds like it's time for a new monitor (or LCD panel) to me!

Seriously, you're wasting your time trying to fix a panel problem with video drivers.

Try booting in safe mode, and while it stalls at MUP.SYS see if the red line is still there...
If it is, then there is no question you've got a bad screen.Obama: The rich have the Federal Reserve and the poor have Harry Reid... LOL. Life really is unfair!

A vertical line (yellow, blue, or red) on a LCD monitor generally means that the monitor has failed. I've had two early Samsung's do this to me. One had a blue line the other a blue and later a yellow. Samsung replaced them both without issue.
Is it still under warranty? If so contact the manufacture about a replacement. It usually counts as line of pixels. Even thou I believe this is actually a problem with the internal electronics.Last edited by nomaxim; July 12th, 2008 at 12:27 PM.
Well, if crime fighters fight crime and fire fighters fight fire, what do freedom fighters fight? They never mention that part to us, do they?

You may want to read his follow up more closely.
If you have that red line as soon as you power up, then its your LCD panel. Consider replacing it but expect to shell out a couple hundred bucks. If your laptop is old and heavy, consider replacing the whole laptop, its cheaper.
Now, you could open up your panels and just check the connection, a lose connection may cause a line or bar to appear and reseating it could potentially fix it short term or long term. Doesnt cost anything but time and potentially losing one of those tiny screws.
