| Is my graphics bottlenecked by my CPU?
Specs:
Mobo: XFX 780i
GPU: Evga 9800 GX2 Overclocked to 700/1750/2055
PSU: 100 Watt Cooler Master......??
CPU: Core2Duo E6750 @ 2.66 GHZ
Ram: 4GB of DDR2 @ 800Mhz
OS: Windows Vista Premium
I'm just curious about this a bit. I don't think I would notice if I was, but still just curious. |

Yeah, I would say it is a little bit. Really the only way to tell is OC your CPU a little bit, and if you get a large jump in FPS, then more then likely there is a bottleneck.
That's really the only way I know how to test.

Bottle necking is a very bad term usually used by those who have no clue what they are talking about.
I could rant on for hours, but you can not say it is because each condition is different. In some applications the cpu is much more dependent than the gpu. Yes, if you run 640x480 at low settings you'll always hit your cpu's limit first. I am certain I (or someone) could build an application where a 386 would outpace the work given to it and would be held up by a GTX 280.

| A 386? That's too old to be even ran alongside a GTX 280. According to the bold quote you just admitted that the 386 would be bottlenecked by the GTX 280, if we made a program that could do so.According to that, you're saying that the CPU can be bottlenecked by the GPU according to the application. That may be, but I guess I didn't mention I am just playing Crysis, for the people who are running such applications and have their CPU's bottlenecked by their GPU seriously need to buy a workstation GPU, or download their GPU's workstation equivelent bios. |
