Upgrading PC-Is this graphics card ok?
Hi everyone
I am planning on getting a new pc early next year but I would like to keep my current one (although old I know
) as I have young kids and I sure this one can be of some use to them for another couple of years.
I am going to upgrade the memory to 3Gb as well as looking at upgrading the PSU if I can find a cheap one on ebay
.
With regards to the graphics card though I would like some advice if the one I have found looks ok for my system. Also wanted to check if I'm right in believing that I should upgrade the PSU.
Graphics Card
PSU
Current Spec
M/Board - MS-6547 (645 Ultra)

Graphic Card - 64mb 8500 Radeon

2 x 80Gb HDD
CD-RW

Many Thanks

The X1650 AGP is a good choice for your system. Your PSU is on the low side as they say it requires at least 350W.
This one will do the job and it's from a quality manufacturer: FSP-350ATX : FSP 350W POWER SUPPLY . It's really cheap too.

Problems Upgrading
Have purchased the above graphics card (X1650 AGP) & 350W PSU but am having problems getting the graphics card to work correctly.
The graphics card can be installed but within a couple of minutes the computer will lock up (screen, mouse & keyboard freeze) and will then eventually will restart. The most the PC has been doing with this occuring in opening IE - most of the time it will do it when just on the desktop.
Secondly and maybe relevant to the above fault I have tried to upgrade the ram. My motherboard spec says it should work with 3Gb but if I try to run it with 3Gb the PC just cycles through boot up and then resets before the desktop appears or gets to the desktop and then performs as above. It works fine with 2Gb and I have tried it with both new 1Gb modules seperately with the existing 1gb and both work ok.
Will be very grateful if anyone could give me any sugestions for rectifying these problems.
Many Thanks

Same mobo and same graphics card and same RAM attempt...all failed...
the x1650 AGP keeps making my system crash and the monitor suddenly no longer detects a signal...or it would just display screwy graphics.
3GB RAM...tried upping voltage, switching up mixes and slots...works with 2GB but not 3...tried modifying boot.ini also

It's possible you got a bad card. It happens from time to time.
Might try RMA'ing it, and get a new one. See if that solves it.Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz
