| Will my PSU be able to handle this card?
The card is SAPPHIRE RADEON X1950 Pro (AGP)
I want to put it in a sony pcv-rz504.
I'm not quite sure what it all means on the current psu so I need some help with that. Its a Delta Electronics Model DPS-350RB A.
I would take a picture but its too small to focus on.
Thanks

Yea, it should. They recommend a 450W power supply, but many have run that card successfully with 350W supplies just fine.

Cool thanks, I thought it was 350, but then the other 20 output numbers surrounding it confused me.

The only numbers your really conserned with is the Wattage and the +12W Output. Most new cards will recommend a 26A or greater rating and that comes from multiple +12W rails. If memory serves, my current PSU has two 16A rails for a total of 32A on my +12W rails. |

I had that card for a while, It have a 700 W psu only due to im about to upgrade, but I believe it only requires a 450 W psu (says so on the box) however I have the 512mb not the 256 I'm sure its different. Just to be safe I would whip out a 500 W for your system. |

also to keep in mind, combining 12V rails doesn't always equal what it seems, usually a bit less for overall total than what you add & come up with...
for example, my OCZ GameXstream 700W is a 700W rated PSU, but it has 4x +12V Rails, each with 18 Amps, doing the math, (18Ax4) x 12V = 864W (no way my PSU is that high)
but that formula or whatever, Voltage x Amperage = Wattage, I remember recently reading that really only applies or applied to DC power, AC uses some sort of other formula or equation...
Maybe JP can enlighten us? |

Thanks.
On that note though is my psu proprietary? I've heard somewhere it is but is there any way to see if it is? |

take some measurements, width, height, depth, as well as look at shape & screw/mounting points...
or if you can, take a pic of the PSU from back of case & from inside & post it, so we could look & see.
either that or someone else with a similar system might want to chime in on this?
as for me, I've only owned one "pre-built" system in the last 10+ years, & that was a $50 used HP Intel Celeron based unit I picked up a few years ago for a number cruncher for the old Find-A-Drug Distributive computing project. |
