newbie question - which graphics card to buy for my pc?

Hi all, just wondering if anyone can tell the type of GC to buy? I've been given a pc thats a couple of years old and it only has onboard 64mb graphics, so I want to upgrade it to probably 256mb so my kids can play games. A comp shop guy i spoke to said that only certain cards will work because it's an older pc.

Its an AMD Sempron 3000+, the mobo is MSI MS-7142 K8MM-V.

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers!

That board is AGP 8X for the graphics, just make sure the card you get is AGP 8X and your fine. I dont know how much ram it has now, but it can handle 2GB of system ram.

Newegg.com - AGP 4X/8X, Desktop Graphics / Video Cards, Video Cards & Video Devices, Computer Hardware

any of those would work in the board. for gaming it depends on what your wanting to play, and how much you want to spend. I would sugest a good 75-100 dollar card and you would be golden.

A good choice for that rig would be something like an POWERCOLOR X1650PRO 512M AGP for around $59. It's not too expensive while giving you enough performance for the kid's games.
