OK, well I happen to have a buddy who has a 1000 W psu, maybe he'll be able to help me about and bring it over here. (I agree though, it doesn't make sense that the mobo would function correctly with my x1950 pro then all of the sudden the SAME pci slot not function with this card ruling out the crossfire/sli compatibility. Well I'll give it a shot then I'll let you guys know what happened, I suppose if the psu doesn't get things working right then I need a new mobo. Either way it sounds like I'll be spending money and although the problem will be solved I won't be looking forward to it.
Once again thanks for all the help

Ok, so heres the deal. My friend actually did not have a 1000 W psu he lied. He is a bastard. We laughed about it when he arrived. We plugged it in and to our dismay, the card did not function. Over further inspection, my friend took a good look at the box of the 3870x2 and noticed a sentence I had overlooked. The card recommends an AMD chipset of at least 770 or greater to operate. I unfortunately did not realize this, or share it with you guys but my mobo has a 590 AMD chipset, which is probably a good explanation for why nothing seems to be working. It's of course my fault, the lack of information led you guys to believe in other problems that may be occuring and naturally my thought process was the same way. I am interested in purchasing a new board and was wondering if you guys could help me find a new one according to these qualifications.
I'm looking for a motherboard, for a decent (100$ min-200$ max) price that uses an AM2 socket, DDR2 800 RAM, has crossfire capabilities (with pci x16 slots).
Thats about it, I suppose I should have shared that information with you guys, I feel pretty stupid, my friend discovered it and we both looked at eachother in complete stupidity (mainly my stupidity, well actually all my stupidity.)
Once again, you guys really helped and any more help would be appreciated

ALSO I have a question about pci 2.0. I recall someone mentioning that pci 2.0 is the same port as a pci x16. My card, as I stated earlier says it is capable with both 2.0 and pci x16. I was wondering if I can purchase a mobo that uses the 2.0 slot for my card, that is all. Thanks |

| Yes I know your pain.....
I have a powercolor 3870x2 that only worked after reseting my motherboard bio's making me believe it was my motherboard crashing causing the problems, also almost every time I play a game my computer would crash. One day at a lan party my computer would not stop crashing but I realized after one crash that I still had sound only my radeon card was crashing, the red led's on top of the card was flashing sometimes staying on. I look inside my case closely looking for anything odd, even taking the card out a few times, nothing looked funny but then when putting the card back into the PCI slot I notice the numbers running along the edge of the card was not lining up with the PCI slot. The people a powercolor pulled a fast one, the cards are printed crooked not lining up with the PCI slot the only way I can get my computer to stay on is to take the backplate off and shove a McDonald's toy underneath it....... DON'T Buy powercolor or any ati cards trust me this the the second card from ati that I had problems with. |

so out of the MILLIONS of cards from Powercolor & ATI out there over the years, this one or two bad experiences is enough to justify never buying a card from them again?
sorry to say, I've never had any problems with any ATI card I've owned in the last 10+ years, only issues were driver related. in fact I have a couple older ATI cards that are still ticking. |

Yea man I've been using ATI cards for a while (maybe 4 years), I just tried Powercolor and well, it may just be your card. In my case this time, it was just some stupid thing I overlooked and I feel like an idiot. Oh well, at least I know the problem, imagining you putting a mcdonalds toy on your mobo is making me laugh though. |
