Thread: AIW Radeon 8500DV 64Mb Q's

Another Question. Are their any other cards that have compairable features at around the same price. Just so I have my options open. I doubt any card could do all this, but why not ask anyway!

Your options would be a lot greater if you could dispense with the TV capture .
Why not investigate this: an non-TV capture card plus an external TV capture device.
The initial cash outlay might be a little greater--remember the TV is adding cost $ already to the 8500DV--but the great advantage is you can take the TV capture with you should you upgrade in the future to another card --unless, of course the technology changes radically.
Maybe look for post--or put one up yourself-- about these TV capture devices that are independent of the GFX card as such.
Give it a thought.

The only TV capture card that is cheap enough to make that option a good idea (or at least the only one that comes to me right now) is the ATI Wonder VE for $49.
Looking to the future, I don't forsee the 8500 being passed up within two years (at least till I NEED to upgrade). Then it will probably find it's way into my old PC which will then operate as my editing PC. I will probably then get the ATI Gigaron 7x10 with 8Gbs of QDR with speeds of 1.1Ghz (core), and 9Ghz (mem). For now I think the 8500 will do what I need. Also most stand alone TV cards don't support the VIVO features like the AIW.
But I will thinking about it any hwoo. As always having my options open is a good idea, and if I don't get a job soon that may be my only option (actually my only option would probably be to get a 2Mb PCI card so I can just run my computer when my Radeon LE finnaly does die).
