Can't view movies in full screen on wide screen laptop

    Hi Guys,

    Specs:
Satellite Wide Screen Laptop (approx 5 months old)
    Model: L355D-S7815
    ATI Radeon V. 8.479 32/64bit

    Problem:
When viewing movies or other video clips in wide screen format the entire screen splits diagonally with a visable line from lower left corner of screen to upper right corner of screen and the top left corner of the screen is off white in color and the lower right half screen is black. It refuses to use full screen mode for videos.

You can still use the mouse and see where it changes for where the control buttons are and use esc to get out of full screen mode. Just can not visually see anything other than the diagonal thing I wrote about.

What we have done: uninstalled video drivers and installed new drivers to current new driver just release 10-08-08.

Its still displaying this behavior. What other things can we try?

    TIA

    Karin

i was going to suggest trying different drivers but you've already done that.....

did you use something like driver cleaner after removing the old driver suite and before installing the new one? i've had problems in the past with games that were only solved after using driver cleaner.

driver cleaner is no longer free ... but driver sweeper from the guys at guru 3d is. seems to pretty much the same type of app.

    Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

rather than ramble on i'll leave you to give it a try.....

    remove old drivers

    reboot in safe mode

    run driver sweeper.

    reboot normally

    install new driver.

I had the same problem and found this solution hosted by another good samaritan and it worked!!!!
Try hovering over the video and right click. Pick settings and uncheck enable hardware acceleration.
