Replacing integrated video card

OK, I've got my super awesome 9800 GT video card today. The current video card is an integrated card. Is this the card that is in one of the PCI slots? I've never replaced one of those, want to do this right! Is it the same as replacing a regular video card?

Integrated means its on the MOBO.
First, in windows change your driver to the generic VGA driver(it MIGHT automagically work without changing the driver, but safe is better than lucky).

Then you will have to go into your BIOS(F2 or Del at boot up) , to disable it. Once its disabled, you can open your box, install the video card, close your case, and boot. Install the drivers for your new card, enjoy your speed bump!

Ahhhh, ok, thanks! I thought that's what it meant but when I saw the card in the slot it confused me.

Hm, does the display cable come from the card, or from a display connector that is in line with the MOBO??

Someone may have installed a video card before you got the computer.

Is this the card that is in one of the PCI slots?

9800 GT is PCIe not PCI.

PCI is that little white slot and whatever card is in that don't bother with it, a brown slot is agp, and a black one is PCIe.

Your 3000+ is gonna limit the performance of the 9800GT by quite a bit though.

Got the slot part, that I knew. I just wasn't sure if I needed to remove the other card or just disable it. In looking at it again it may be the network card? My wireless card is above it and on the back of the tower the slot just below my wireless has the ethernet connection.

Oh it's not going in that one! I have a computer that was my mother's. It's has an AMD Athlon 64X2 4200+. I'll be retiring my XP 3000+ soon though...going to build me a new system from the ground up again. Only this time I'm going to know more about what I'm doing!

Depending on the game, I think even that might too. But its a step up of course.

True. My husband got Assassins Creed for Christmas, the cpu just meets the minimum requirements. I may end up upgrading that too, we'll see how it goes. I got everything installed last night, the Antec Basiq psu is so quiet!! Video card up and running, the graphics are amazing compared to what was in there before! Now to actually use it for it's intended purpose....GAMING!!
