| Help with 6200 GF OC Card
Greetings! I currently bought a new Graphics card from Wal-Mart, since it was the only one they had. I got the Nvidia Geforce 6200 OC. It was an upgrade from my 5500 I had for a few years, but. With the release of 'Wrath of the Lich King' For World of Warcraft and with Low FPS from the past, I wanted a change.
When I uninstalled the 5500 and put the new 6200 in and installed it with the disc and then disabled the on-board Graphics. I was okay, BUT! I noticed little streaks through some Desktop items, and on the Display menu, the little computer icon? their were streaks through it. When I loaded up World of Warcraft, My PC Froze on the log-on screen and I had to do a Hard Reboot. I know this isn't World of Warcraft related because of the streaks on the desktop. Also, This pc is a lot older then the HP PC I had a few months ago (It broke and my cousin gave me this pc to work with).
When I used the 5500 with this pc, It runs fine. Just the 6200 that has the problems. Is their any way I can fix this? Thank you in advance!

Hi and welcome to techimo.
Sounds like your power supply isn't up to the task of powering the new GPU.
Those 6200's aren't really all that demanding, but they do take more power then your older fx5500.
So basically you have 2 options.
1. Upgrade you power supply
2. take the card back, get your money back.
Hope I helped. |

Only one way to find out.
Really, overall wattage doesn't really matter. What the GPU's pull power from is the 12v+ rail. So if you look on the stickers on the side of the power supplies, they will list what they output.
I'd try for the one that say it pushes the most amps.
If none of those work, depending on how old the system is, you can pick up a new quality power supply for about $30 online. Newegg.com - FSP Group ATX350-PA 350W ATX 12V (v 2.2) Power Supply - Power Supplies |

Found the good one! here are the specs,
AC Imput: 115 6A
230v 3A
Frequency: 50-60HZ
Peak Load: 300W
DC OUTPUT
+5V +3.3V +12V -5V +5vsb
25A 20A 12A 0.8A 2A
180W Max 156W 1.5W 9.6W 10W
Would that work? Just wanted to make sure before I messed around with it! Thank you so much in advance! Great help you have been!

I did it Via Disc/or Hardware install. I don't think I ever used the website to download the drivers. What would you recommend? Installing those drivers on top of the 6200's Disc? |

Uninstall the current drivers, then install the newest version from the website. If there is no uninstaller in Add remove Programs, right click the card in Device Manager and uninstall it there.

Didn't try World of warcraft, but. I think it will freeze my pc. |
