Uhm, did you buy that 6200 new in store?? If so, you should be able to return it me thinks.
As you can see here: Motherboard Specifications, P5LP-LE (Altair)*
your motherboard does NOT support the Core2Duo cpus, only at best the Pentium D, so no go there.
Your best bet is indeed to get a better powersupply and then a somewhat better videocard.
Only problem is, you have a Compaq case, so not all powersupplies will fit in there.
I would get a 400 or 450W powersupply and a 3850 or something.

Hey man, no problem at all, glad to help.
About that PSU....I looked on the site and seems it is the only choice you have there.
Before you order it, contact them and ask what the ratings for the +12V lines are, what Amperage they can deliver. That is the most important part.
Are you getting the card in the same place??
I looked at the site again, and if you are planning on getting the videocard there as well, I recommend the following:
If that powersupply turns out to be ok, then get that one, but when you get the answer from the shop about the +12V rating, 1st post it here before making a decision.
Then, if that if sufficient, get this card: CBiT - Computer Parts, Computers, Laptops, FTA, Service, Training, Networking, and more!
You'll have to wait with ordering it till you get that little bit of extra money, but it'll be worth it, the 4670 is better then the 9500GT, it's closer to the 9600GT. GeForce 9500 GT review
that is a review where you can see the 9500GT and 9600GT in action, as you can see the 9500GT is a lot slower then the 9600GT, so.....I would get the 4670, but ofcourse that is your choice in the end.

hello ultima. yes i will be getting the card in the same place. uhm it is a store that is just there site. although i have found a better and cheaper psu on ebay. please give it a look.
http://cgi.ebay.ca/GREEN-500W-ATX-POWER-SUPPLY-500-WATT-DUAL-FAN-20-24_W0QQitemZ280310758962QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCA_UPS ?hash=item280310758962&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkpa rms=72%3A1215|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318
it is a very good deal considering it is new. also i am a bit iffy on ati. all my friends say that the 9500 gt is better and i was also planning on getting it as well for a long time. but now you show me the 4670 and it looks pretty good. anyways i dont play Crysis or anything im just Counter Strike:Source and WoW and i play at 1024*768 but i do want the highest fps at max settings and smooth gameplay so i will consider the 4670. also i have about 200 dollars but the 70 from that is iffy because before i figured out i had pci-e i purchased a pci 6200 which is horrible. i bought it about 3 weeks ago and at the store i got it from (cbit) they give you instore credit so i guess i can return this. but then i am not sure because i purchased it a while back. thanks. |

best thing is to contact the store about getting a refund.
They will probably say yes if you tell them you want to opt for a better card, which you also want to buy there, they shouldn't be any problem, more money to them so to speak
About that powersupply, it may be cheap, but it has a max current of 10A on the +12V line, of which it only has 1, so if you get that one, you will not be able to run the card on it.
Best is get info from the shop, explain you bought a card there but wanted another, which they sell, and want to trade it in, and the PSU I recommended, and you should be fine.
About your friends....they wouldn't happen to all use nVidia cards would they? Seriously, if you can show me an unbiased review that showes the 9500GT being better then the 4670.....I'd like to see it
But you can always get the 4830 instead of the 4670, it has a lot more performance and in that shop it costs 150 bucks....your choice ofcourse.

thanks for alll your help dude. i finally made my decision. i am going to return my current card and get the psu at cbit. also i will bring my computer there as they install parts for free. as for the 4670. well i am lucky as to my friend's cousin is a computer tech and he is selling his 4670 for one hundred. i am going to purchase that once i get my PSU. but here is the thing. i can get a brand new one at cbit for less becuz my current card is 64.95. the psu is 49.95. so that means there is an extra 10 - 14 dollars. but then again there is tax so it will come around 100 +. so, i will just get the one from my friend's cousin. as for the 12v rails and ampreage i have no clue what that is. LOL. |
