| nvidia Geforce 150GTS help
Hi there! Just wondering if u guys can help me?
I'm trying to find some info on the nvidia Geforce 150GTS. It's in a system I'm thinking of purchasing and so far there is hardly any info on the card. The little info I have come across indicates that the card is actually on older card that nvidia have renamed, but which older card is it? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thx |

NVIDIA's rebranded GeForce 100 series cards have popped up on the company's website, it includes the GeForce GTS 150, GeForce GT 130, GeForce GT 120 and GeForce G100. Basically, these cards rebadged versions of the GeForce 9800 GTX+, GeForce 9600 GSO, GeForce 9500 GT, and GeForce 9400 GS, respectively.
| NVIDIA GeForce GTS 150, GT 130, GT 120 and G100 launched
doing some more research on nvidia's site, the GTS 1xx series seems to be labeled as not for individual Purchase, so I'm guessing more than likely the GTS 1xx series is for OEM/System Builders and not the regular retail market.
further comparison of Specs seem to prove that both the GTS 150 & 250 are both 9800GTX+ models, just that the 250 has a slight edge with slightly faster Memory clock, Memory Bandwidth, and supports OpenGL 3.0 vs the 150's 2.1. GeForce GTS 250 GeForce GTS 150
just found this link, as if nvidia already had everyone confused... More Nvidia graphics cards with new nomenclature: Geforce GTS 150, GT 130, GT 120 and G 100 - Geforce, graphics card, GTS 150, GT 130, GT 120, G100 - PC Games Hardware
seems there are 3 GTS 250 versions, one of which is IDENTICAL to the GTS 150, but my suspicions were correct the 100 series is for OEM & System Builders only, not the regular retail market.

What do you think about this card, will it be decent for current games such as Empire total war? |

oh yeah, shouldn't be a problem at all, may not be a top end card like the GTX 2xx cards, but its definitely a good starting point. performance would be about the same as current 9800GTX+ and Radeon 4850 cards.
depending on where you live though, was just the other day on newegg they had a GTX 260, thats almost twice the power of a 9800GTX/GTX+/GTS150/250 card for around $160-170 or so, which is cheap for those since they usually hover around the $200-230 mark. if one could afford it, I'd go for the GTX, but if not, starting around the $130 mark the GTS 150/250 cards (well $130 for the 250's since they can be purchased individually, for the 150, it'd be adding roughly $130 to the price of a system for a system builders PC), its not a bad deal. the 9800GTX/GTX+ usually are a bit higher in the $140-150 range.
looking at the GTS 250's on newegg, there's about a $10-20 difference between some of the 512MB & 1GB models too, so thats a pretty good deal, usually there's a good $40-50+ premium tacked on to these mid range/high end cards going from 512MB to 1GB or more.
I haven't read much on Empire Total war, at least not lately, have only seen some comments & screen shots, but I'd say a GTS 250/150 would be a good start to get decent graphics with. |

Great stuff Shyguy! Again thx for ur help! Def lots to think about anyway. The card is in a pre-built lsystem I'm thinking of buying and my decision hangs on the graphics card. I'm now thinking that if the graphics card is not for retail sale, what would I do to get another to put in SLI configuration? |

good question, assuming the firmware or bios on the cards aren't different you should be able to just get a GTS 250 and pair it up. especially since its supposed to be possible to pair one of the "older" 9800GTX+'s with a GTS 250 for SLI, since their the same thing. just that the 250 might default to the slower cards speeds, but not much difference between the 150 & 250's speeds except for 100MHz on memory speeds (actual speed, not the DDR speed, which should translate to about 200MHz DDR speed).
not sure if anyone else knows for sure, but might be something to check out on nvidia's forums or contact them & find out for sure? |

I know you can SLI the GTX250 and 9800gtx+. So in theory, the GTX150 is the same as the 9600gso, so that would be the card to try it with.
But, the GTX100,120,130 are only available to manufactures. (Dell, HP, etc) |

GTS 150 is same as the GTS 250, just a slower Memory clock...
already linked it above the specs for both.
GT 130 is same as the 9600 GSO. |

Hmm. Ive gotten so used to seeing the GT(X, and now S)XXX line as high end cards that they look really funny to me with tiny little coolers like that
