If its an E2200 then its a little newer than the PD

The idea behind a good cpu is that it wont bottleneck a high end gpu. Sure the rig you mentioned above will play games fine on that old gpu. But there is no point in spending the money on something you will not use to its fullest.
Also of note thats a Pentium D not to be confused with the core duo line of cpu's. |

if My old E6400 Core 2 Duo was slightly choking the old G80 8800GTS, then a Pentium Dual core running a bit faster than that will certainly choke a 4850, or higher and possibly a little on the 4830. but with the latter, with the amount of improvement over your old card, it will make it more than worth while... the percent of increase over the old card will easily overshadow the amount of performance potentially bottlenecked with the CPU.

This Compaq one is decent but nothing special.
Hmmm I wonder if I even have the option of upgrading the CPU on this comp |
