Hello there,
I'm glad i found you guys, i really hope you can help me with this.
I just recently bought my self one of these new ASUS ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 TOP 2048MB GDDR5 TV-OUT DUEL DVIHDMI (PCI EXPRESS) graphics cards from overclockers.co.uk but they are now sold out as i bought the last one... sorry.
I even bought my self a brand new (today) High Powered 1000W power supply to keep this beast alive.
Hi-Power Black 1000W Modular 13.5cm Fan PSU - 4x PCI-E, 20+4pin, 6x SATA - Ebuyer
I have uninstalled all the old graphics drivers from my old Geforce 8800gts 320mb card before putting in this new card.
I then installed all the new drivers for the card from the CD given.
Now, i have connected everything up the way it should be (i hope) u'll just have to believe me, unless u can state otherwise...
I power the machine on, everything sounds okay, all the fans are running so power seems alright.
However, it takes alot longer than usual for the monitor to start up...
When the monitor powers on showing the bios settings and then moving onto the startup screen... the resolution is different, there are lines crossing the screen all over, blank spots so i cant read whats on the screen, colour is awful. When i logged in (managed to log in) i checked the display settings and the resolution was on 640 by 480 with 4bit colour, however the computer runs smoothly. I checked the advanced settings and all the information that should be there for Chip type, DAC Type, Adapter string, BIOS information etc... is all unknown and N/A.
I would also get messages popping up saying,
*Device Driver software was unsuccessfully installed. Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device to install
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter - Failed*
And one from software that gets installed with the graphics card saying, cannot detect your graphics card, something like that anyway as soon as i log in.... so it seems to me that my system is finding it difficult to detect this new graphics card.
My thoughts on this are, need a better MB or the Graphics card itself is faulty... im not happy.
Here is my system spec
Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit with service pack 1
AMD Phenom 9850 Quad Core Processor 2.50Ghz
TA780G M2+ Motherboard, AMD 780G Chipset, AM2+
4GB Samsung DDR800Mhz RAM
Intergrated graphics ATI Radeon HD 3200 512mb (crap)
1000W High Powered PSU
500GB Hard drive
CD/DVD ROM
Thankyou so much for reading and checking this out for me, im stuck completely... spent over 400 pounds in a week just for a graphics card to work, dont really want to spend anymore... i cant anyway
Pete.
