Graphics card (Radeon HD 2400XT) not recognized in PCIe slot

I have an ATI Radeon HD 2400XT Video Card 256MB DVI PCI Expres, I installed the card but my computer is not recognizing it, I've disabled the onboard graphics (but have not uninstalled the drivers yet..) and choose PCIe in BIOS after that the fan goes from full blast to regular speed about 7 times then my computer boots up and the video comes through the onboard graphics even though its been disabled and moved from primary video.
I have also removed the CMOS battery with still no success.

No video is broadcasted from the card.
And it also does not show in the device manager.
I've reset the CMOS
Upgraded the BIOS with my manufacturers latest update
Running latest version of windows Vista Ultimate SP2 32bit
Motherboard is an Asus A8N-LA
(ER900AA-ABA a1430n)
BIOS type Phoenix Award
The computer was a Compaq but i swapped the motherboard from a pavilion desktop, upgraded the Ram, added a 1 trerrabyte HDD

Does the 2400XT need a power connection?

I don't understand...is your monitor even plugged into the video card, opposed to the integrated graphics?

2400XT's are too low end to need one, not even for the 2600's. unless it was maybe an AGP card, but for PCIe there's enough juice flowing through the slot to power them.

check the Bios and see if there is an option for Display initialization priority, some Bios's its listed as "Display Init", choose PCIe instead of integrated if it shows it, see if that works.

had similar troubles last year with my 2600 Pro and the old AMD AM2 socket Geforce 6100 based motherboard (pretty much the same as 6150, just that a 6150 has a DVI output besides a standard VGA).

as qrs mentioned make sure the monitor cable is plugged into the card too, not the onboard videos output.
