How to change monitor outputs?

At the moment, the display on my monitor is being sent out of my graphics card and i was wondering if there was a way for me to change it? I wanted the data to be sent out of the port on the motherboard.

What is the make and model of your motherboard? In most cases the motherboard shuts down the onboard video by default anytime there is a dedicated card. However with some boards you needed to change the settings in the bios. So it might be a simple fix, however not knowing having your system details its hard to say.

Is there a specific reason to use the on-board over the dedicated card? Have you tried swapping the cables to see if you get a single from the on-board or not.

The reason I wanted that monitor port to work it because my old 6600 had the monitor port i could use, but the 6800gt i got has two ports that i can't hook my monitor up too. It is a big rectangle with a lot of little squares in it; has two of them. Do they sell an adapter that would work?
