| Monitor display for games not centered
I don't do a lot of gaming, but I built an 800 Mhz Duron system
on a Soyo mobo w/ on-board graphics,(probably Trident),which
uses 8 MB of system RAM. WindowsME and other application displays are all fine.
Ran the MS motocross trial to test out the graphics - it runs fine,
but the screen is not centered ; it's offset to the left about an
inch or so. Loaded B-17 simulator game, and the same thing happens - a black 1+" strip down the right side of the screen.
DXdiag runs fine, with everything centered.
What can be causing this displacement with games only?
Thanks for your help.

Have you adjusted the moniter via it's controls on the front? Just starting out with the obvious.
Next right click on the desktop and click properties. Now click settings, and then advanced. Go to the adapter tab and under adapter type what does it say? 5 min responce time...I must be loosing my touch |

What kind of monitor do you have? Your on-board graphics may go into a mode(resolution or refresh rate) during the game that the monitor has to adjust to display it correctly. Most newer CRT displays have some sort of memory function that once you adjust your screen to the proper size, it will remember it automatically and size your screen/refresh accordingly. |

I believe this happens because most monotors store their positions by refresh rate, you can keep the same resolution but changing the refresh will make the monitor display the image differently.
So because games will usealy change the refresh rate, the games are being diplayed a bit different so you will have to correct it again with your monitors controlls.

Thanks for responding,guys.
The monitor is a 19" Optiquest (Viewsonic) Q95, which is an excellent monitor w/ very good specs.
I'll try changing the adapter/display settings. It does seem like
the monitor should automatically take care of this.
I can't be absolutely positive, but I believe this same monitor with
a different box(w/ Radeon AIW), running that B-17 sim,centered
just fine(?)
I'll relay the details of the settings changing tomorrow.
Thanks, again, for the input.
