What Is A Graphics Card And What Does It Do??

DO you need a graphics card if your not playing games on your pc? What is the point of having one? What does it do?

A graphics card sends information to the monitor. Without one you would not see anything on your monitor. Some pc's have a graphics chip on the motherboard that serves the same purpose of a separate graphics card.

A video card, video adapter, graphics-accelerator card, display adapter, or graphics card is an expansion card whose function is to generate and output images to a display. Many video cards offer added functions, such as accelerated rendering of 3D scenes, video capture, TV-tuner adapter, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 decoding, FireWire, light pen, TV output, or the ability to connect multiple monitors, while other modern high performance cards are used for more graphically demanding purposes such as PC games.

If you dont game or use CAD etc... then it generaly is not needed....... On-board is enough for standard PC usage.

yes kind of, but I was wondering if the onboard graphics card would do, or I would need to upgrade to get better performance, but since im not playing games I guess the onboard video will do the trick.
