Monitor Changes Color (loose Conector Plz HELP!!!)

I have an Old 17 inch Gateway 2000 ViviTron Monitor that I have had for 4 years... It still works great... But I have an annoying Problem on the monitor cable there is a small little bulge that looks like it could be a fuse or sumthing..( it's right before the plug on the end.) Well my problem is that if i bend the cable the color on the monitor goes all pink,or yellow... sumtimes the screen goes blank too. But when I bend the cable back the way it was the screen changes back and works fine.

This wouldn't be such a problem but every time some one jumps in my room or i bump the computer. The screen gets all messed up.

I figure there is either there is a blown fuse or a loose wire. But I have no idea how to address this problem (Can I get just a cable or can i fix it with a new fuse or what?) Plz help any sugesstions ...

Definitely buy a new cable. I do not think that is a fuse. plus why risk any kind of hazard for a cheap old cable?

That small "bulge" is likely a ferriod RF filter (a magnet type device), thus is not really the problem. It is likely that a wire has broken at or near the filter, a relatively common occurance. I recommend to just replace the cable, as this is not really a user servicable problem, unless you feel comfortable tracing down the broken lead with an ohm's meter, then resplicing the wire, assuming it did not actually break inside or directly at the filter.

Question

Could I just buy a new cable and replace the whole thing at once?.... I'm pretty good with a soder, and it might be easyer then tracing down the wire...
