My PC doesnt seem to agree with my ATI HD 5770
just signed up literally to ask this as im a bit of a noob at troubleshooting stuff like this.
well, i got an ATI HD 5770 to replace my 8800 GS and for some reason my pc has gone into a mood now:
when booting up after logging in it makes the sound to say im on, but it stays on the login screen "loading settings" for about 2 minutes, and when it eventually loads, it loads my desktop background - but no icons, and no option to right click.
after another 2 minutes my screen resets and goes black for a second and resets my background to a black background and my desktop icong come back and it seems to function properly.
ive also noticed wow loads slower with my new card too, which considering the difference it really shouldnt...
ive managed to sort this next thing out but this annoyed me for a bit too:
ive always used 1920x1200 resolution with my 24" monitor, but for some reason when i installed my new card it stretched the desktop and i had to literally scroll across the desktop to get form one side to the other - changing the resolution back and too constantly managed to sort this out but it still annoyed me.
anyone any idea why my pc is being so shitty with my new card? got all the most recent drivers - uninstalled my nvidia drivers etc...
could this be anything to do with my harddrive at all with the loading of the software and os? im using xp atm and gonna upgrade to 7 soon so hopefully that might sort something out.
i have some videos to demonstrate what i mean:

thanks in advance for any help.

I gather you uninstalled old drivers and run a driver cleaner tool before instaling the new card and new drivers?

did that today and it didnt make any difference at all

i had to spend 2 hours trying to get it back to how it was on the videos actually.
do you think there may be something wrong with my PSU?
600watt, but it had to use an adaptor for the 6-pin graphics power plug, ive been told that might be an issue?

win power atx-600L
ive rang up overclockers support where i bought it from and they mentioned that i should have the other end of the 6-pin adaptor (the white bit) re-pluged into another white bit? ive always just left it dangling incase i ever wanted to run 2 cards and it worked fine on my old one
gonna try that now but if not they said the card may be faulty.

From what I can find on the unit its a poor quality PSU which is probably letting you down.... 24A on the +12v rail (thats if it can push that). So I think mabye you will need a new PSU.

ill probably try that aswell as sending it back, i didnt really put much thought behind the PSU and mobo when i built it, at the time i was a bit naive and didnt think they mattered too much lol.
one thing i dont understand though is why a 400watt psu is better than a 600watt one?
im by no means questioning what youve said i just dont know why its better when it has a lower wattage?

Well the internal parts are better quality and can actualy do what it says on the label. Also when looking at PSU's its the +12v Amps which are important not wattage. Cheap units put lots of power to the 3.3v and 5v and very little to the +12v.
The 400W corsair unit I linked to has 30A on the +12v where as the 600W unit you have only has 24A.I7 920 @ 4.2Ghz/6GB//GTX480 SLI/M4 64 GB + 1.5 TB + 2x 640 GB/Corsair TX950/ASUS blu-ray/ASUS P6X58D-E + X-Fi /LC PCK62

Keep in mind though, multi Rails for +12V don't always add up to what they should, for example its possible to have 4 18A +12V rails, theoretically that should be 864W's [(18A x 4)x 12V] = 864W. but in reality the Unit may only be rated for 700 or 750W max, so the +12V won't really add up to 72A, usually with most decent units they'll display the Combined +12V amp rating.
Some units will provide every last amp on the +12V if it has multiple rails, but for the most part, most don't, even the Quality brands.
just a heads up when looking at new PSU's in the future.
(for example, the Refurbished OCZ 1010W unit I picked up recently has 4 +12V Rails, each at 20A, should be a total of 80 Amps, but is rated at a combined Amp rating of 75A, however on the OCZ site it says it will only do 72A at Ambient Room Temp of 20C. even though the unit should be able to do all 80 Amps, and not peak beyond its rated max Wattage)i7 940//Corsair H60//EVGA X58 SLI LE//6GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz//2x EVGA GTX 560 Ti FPB SLI//NZXT Hale82 850W//CM 690 II Advanced//Win7 64//WD 74GB V-raptor, 750GB Black, 1.5TB Green
