    Question nforce based motherboards

building a system and thinking of going with a motherboard based on the new nforce 620-d (when i finally find one tell me if you can find one) chipset. I was just wondering if anyone had used a nforce chipset and if so what you thought of it. Would I be better off with a kt333 based board and a seperate graphics board? Any sugestion welcome and thanks ahead of time

On-board features have come a long way. The LAN and Sound are just as good as about any PCI card out there. I guess it all boils down to what you really want. How much more is video on-board? Will it suit your needs in the future? I don't have any experience with it though. A good graphics card can be one of the most expensive add-ons for a computer. So I'd consider it for a while.

It depends on what are you going to do with your PC .. and how much can you spend ...

If you`re a gamer, then get the KT333 with a separate graphic board (or even a KT266A chipset based MoBo) ...

If you are not a gamer then the nforce might save you few bucks because of the integrated stuff ..

    BTW, Welcome to TechIMO

I've configured a system usuing an MSI nForce board with winXP, and an athlonXP1700+! It was a dream to use! Everything ran fast and smooth!

Preformance wise. Well the onboard video is fast enough to run some games. I didn't really game on it much, but I did play a few hours of Homeworld (ran smoothly except when I blew the mothership up), and I got about 1000 something 3dmarks in 3dmark2001. Not amazing graphics, but it does game some (While I didn't actually play it I'd say it will run Quake3 at 800x600 with decent FPS). Mostly though it just has fast bencharks memory and CPU wise! I'd suggest it if you want something fast for everthing but gaming (strange considering it's from nVidia ). It's a lot cheaper then buying a nice mobo (which it is), and then going out and spending another $50+ for a cheapo vid card.

    BTW Welcome to TechIMO

Hmm, this just got me thinking of the computer I'm going to build for college this fall. Perhaps I should go with an nForce board with the onboard video and sound and wait for the K8s to come out. What do you think?
