    Exclamation nvidia 8600gt driver incompatibility

My graphics card is palit nvidia 8600gt 512mb super, monitor samsung syncmaster 632nw 16" wide screen, processor core to duo 3 GHz. I use windows 7. The problem is I got 171.(something) (without whql signature) and 169.(something) (whql signed) drivers for vista in the CD that came with the graphics card. They work fairly well with little problem: sometimes when I pop-menu is opened, the menu options on which the cursor goes it becomes black. sometimes it causes problem in 3ds max 2010 frequently. So, I was searching for a new driver. I downloaded new driver (259.19) for nvidia 8 series from nvidia website. I installed it but it cannot show 1360 X 768, 1280 X 720 resolutions in my wide screen monitor. When I set these resolutions it shows a relatively square screen with very poor contrast keeping dark areas on both side of the widescreen monitor. Then I downloaded a driver from palit microsystem's website. It posed the same problem. I am working on win 7.

So, how can I get a latest driver that works?

First off, did you uninstall the old driver first before installing the new driver?
Did you run any sort of driver cleaner in between uninstalling and installing the new driver? Graphic drivers leave quite a bit of files behind when they are uninstalled, and if they are cleaned properly they can cause issues with new drivers.
What I would do, first off download these:
    NVIDIA DRIVERS 197.57 BETA
*I've had the best luck with these drivers on older nvidia cards*
    and a driver cleaner:
Guru3D - Driver Sweeper (Setup) download from Guru3D.com

Now uninstall your current GPU drivers, restart the computer. Then run the driver sweeper program, and clean any nvidia gpu drivers it finds. Then restart again, then install the new drivers. That should hopefully fix your issues.
    Good luck

    Thanks for the answer friend.
Yes, I did uninstall the old driver first. Sometimes then windows 7 installed its built-in driver after restart. then the PC restarts again and then I installed the new driver.

First quite a lot of times I did not use any driver cleaner. Later on I used revo uninstaller. But it didn't find anything.

Going to try 197.57. Wish me luck.
