| D'OH! Already ordered. . . Will a AGP 2.0 card work in an AGP 1.0 slot? At all?
I just ordered a new video card, which says it requires an "AGP 2.0 compliant socket" - mine is 1.0, an old Abit ZM6. Yeah, yeah, I know I've got to upgrade it soon, but will the new card work AT ALL in the meantime in my existing mobo?
Thanks for the help,

What card did you order?
Some will work, some won't. |

An Xstasy 440MX - liked the 'dual VGA' feature. Not the biggest beast on the block, but in my price range.
While we're on the subject - does a DDR motherboard (the MSI KT3 Ultra, to be precise) require DDR ram, or can I use my old SDIMMs until I can afford the good stuff?
thx. |

I'm not familiar with that particular card. You'll have to check the specs on it and find out if it can run at 3.3v or will only work with 1.5v.
And going to a new mobo is going to mean new RAM, if you want a decent mobo. |

So I can't even use it temporarily? are the slots different? Forgive my ignorance here. . . I've been off the scene for a few years. |

"AGP Pro is based on AGP 2.0, but provides a longer slot with additional power for professional-level graphics cards. A computer with either an AGP Pro or AGP 2.0 slot will work with both AGP 1.0 and AGP 2.0 cards. But an AGP 1.0 slot is not compatible with either of the other specifications."

Screen Hints,
Nope, that mobo is going to require DDR. A passing similarity in the RAM slots is about all the compatibility there is. Different number of pins, different length, different data rate, yadda, yadda. Sorry
