GTX 460 OC vs. 8800 GTX win XP
Hello,
I recently purchased a 460 GTX OC for my pc which is 4ish years old. Previous to this card (which I haven't rec'd through the mail yet) I have been using a 8800 gtx and have been happy with it. What I am wondering is if there is any benefit to having a 460 GTX OC on win xp over a 8800 gtx. I know that the 460 gtx oc can utilize direct x 11, however, seeing as XP only lets me use direct x 9 I am not sure what the other benefits would be. I understand the basics regarding computer tech, however, I get lost in some of the technical jargon so a simple answer would be appreciated
I am wondering if I will see graphical improvements/performance improvements with the 460 gtx oc
or if I would only be seeing a difference on a windows 7 direct x 11 computer?
Thanks for the help,
V

You'll notice the difference most likely. The thing about upgrading GPU's, is if your CPU is already taxed providing data to your current 8800gtx, then you'll see very little improvement with the 460. We call this "bottlenecking" and depending on what CPU you have, you might be setting yourself up for that.
Basically if your CPU is older, it'll have a hard time providing the info to the GPU, thus causing slow downs/lagg/studders in some games.
What's the rest of the specs on your system?Q6600@4Ghz | i7 920@4.4Ghz |E6320@3.5Ghz

Sorry, I'll have to get back to you on that one for the complete list. I'm stuck at work right now. Here's what I remember
the CPU is an
amd athlon 64 x2
620 watt corsair psu
2gb ddr2 ram
can't remember the motherboard
something like an am2
8800 gtx (current graphics)
I'll make sure to double check everything and post the motherboard when I get home.
Thanks for the help,
V

Here, I've got my specs
Motherboard: Asus M2N SLI Deluxe
Display: Nvidia GEforce 8800 GTX
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.01 GHz
2 Gb Ram
Do you think that my computer could handle the 460 GTX OC or would it bottleneck?
Thanks,
V
